Lloyd Carr Steps Down at Michigan

The end has finally come for Lloyd Carr at Michigan. It has no doubt been an up and down tenure for Carr with the maize and blue. Many people in the media want to get some final conclusion on how he will be remembered as a Michigan coach. I find it really tough to sum up Carr at Michigan in one particular light. In fact there are many legacies he's left at Michigan. First and foremost he was a winner. He won a national championship in his third season at Michigan and he lead them to 5 Big Ten titles. During his span there, Carr was very successful in Big Ten play but seemed to not show up against out of conference opponents towards the tail end of his career. The biggest knock on Carr is his head to head record against Jim Tressel at Ohio State. Much like John Cooper at OSU, Carr is now out at Michigan due to these downfalls.

So What's Next?
All indications point to Les Miles to take over the Michigan program. He's a Michigan man through and through. If he doesn't leave LSU for Michigan look for Michigan to look at a slew of candidates. Amongst those available candidates, I would expect Michigan to take a long look at Brian Kelly, Bret Bielema, Jim Harbaugh, and possibly even Kirk Ferentz. Again, in my opinion this search will start and end with Les Miles.

If Miles Leaves:
If Miles leaves look for a major shakeup in the college coaching carousel with Bo Pellini (LSU's defensive coordinator) being the main guy talked about. Assuming Miles leaves, we could see LSU and Nebraska tugging at Pellini's arms to take over their programs. Another team who could be chasing Pellini is Texas A&M if they can't pry Tubberville from the plains of Auburn. Other names that could surface for the LSU position is Chris Peterson from Boise State, Jeff Tedford, Will Muschamp (defensive coordinator at Auburn), and Jimbo Fisher amongst others.
