This is the first installment of my conference predictions. They will be posted in order of my preseason conference rankings. First off this year is the SEC.
This conference has 2 legitimate national championship contenders and a slew of powerhouses. Last season the SEC was home to the national champion and went 6-3 in the bowl games ( 1 for 3 against the Big Ten). The major offseason story obviously was the hiring of Nick Saban at Alabama. He should be able to lift Alabama to the upper ranks of the SEC, but it may take a couple of years. He still is not the best coach in the conference, but he will be in the mix with the other high quality coaches in the SEC.
Out of conference this season for the SEC will be pretty easy with the exception of a few intriguing matchups. There will be an early season showdown in Bayou country between LSU and Virginia Tech which will get a lot of hype due to this spring's incident at Va Tech and also LSU's national titles hopes being put on the line early in the season. Tennessee has to travel to Berkeley to take on a Cal team that's hungry for revenge after their humiliating loss in Knoxville last season. Alabama faces Florida State in Jacksonville in a matchup of two programs with very improved coaching staffs and high hopes. Auburn hosts Kansas State and South Florida this season. Lastly Georgia hosts Oklahoma State as they try to turn around their season from last year.

At the end of this year I would expect a lot of coaching turnover in the SEC. Phil Fulmer is probly the top name to get replaced as he has recently let his fans down, however the addition of David Cutcliffe could save his job. Houston Nutt it would seem needs to win the SEC and have McFadden win the Heisman to keep his job after this year, due to the outrage with the Arkansas fanbase over the actions during this offseason. Also look for Sylvester Croom to be replaced due to lack of results and Rich Brooks could be canned due to a combination of age and success if Kentucky can't build off their suprising bowl victory over Clemson last season.
The three main stories to follow this year in the SEC are:
1. Will star sophomore QB's Tim Tebow and Matt Stafford live up the enormous hype developed by their fan base?
2. What will Nick Saban's first year look like?
3. What happens this year at Arkansas: Will McFadden win the Heisman? Will Nutt keep his job?
I look for LSU and Florida to be in the championship game due to a good mix of favorable schedules, talent, and especially in Florida's case a top of the line head coach.Furthermore here are my predictions for the upcoming season:
West
1. LSU 12-0 (8-0)
2. Arkansas 10-2 (6-2)
3. Alabama 9-3 (6-2)
4. Auburn 7-5 (3-5)
5. Ole Miss 6-6 (2-6)

you are wrong on the mississippi state bulldogs, and the vanderbilt commodores. msu outgained their final 4 opp. losing on special teams. the dogs will win 3 sec games, while the commodores very well could go to a bowl this year.
Auburn will beat Alabama for the 6th straight year. There is no way Alabama will have 9 wins.
I think Ole Miss will finish 3rd or 4th in the West. 3-9 for Miss. State is way too generous.
As for the previous comment, I'll believe Vandy goes to a bowl when I see it. They have not had a winning season since 1982.
Florida returns 2 starters on Defense 6 on Offense..I don't think so!
I'm going with the darkhorse SC...GA...FL...TENN...VANDY...KY.
LSU...AL...AU...ARK..OMS...MS.
